Consultant in Nutritional Immunology and Allergy
Prof. Ranjit Kumar Chandra is the President of Nutritional Immunology & Allergy Centre, Gurgaon, India. Until recently, he was the Président and Vice-Chancellor of Université Internationale des Sciences de la Santé. Before that he was the University Research Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, the first Carnegie Visiting Professor at Johns Hopkins University and Director of the World Health Organization Centre for Nutritional Immunology.
Previously, Prof. Chandra worked at the Institute of Child Health, the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and as Professor of Nutritional Immunology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School.
Prof. Chandra has served as a consultant to the World Health Organization, National Institutes of Health, National Academy of Sciences USA, and Indian Council of Medical Research. He was President of the International Congress of Nutrition held in Montreal in 1997. He has been a fellow or member of 24 prestigious societies and a Master of the American College of Physicians .
From 1981 to 2003, Prof. Chandra was the founding Editor-in-Chief of Nutrition Research , published monthly from New York. He has authored over 200 original articles in peer-reviewed publications, and 22 books.
Dr. Chandra has received 16 honorary degrees including DSc honoris causa recently from Panjab University. He has received over 100 awards worldwide. In 2003, he was given the Jubilee Gold Medal by the Queen and the title of Honorable Baron of Blackburn. Prof. Chandra is an Officer of the Order of Canada , the highest award given to Canadian citizens.
