Root Canal
Root canal therapy is done to correct disorders of the dental pulp -- the soft tissue around the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. The procedure is generally spread over several visits to assure the infected pulp and associated bacteria have been adequately drained.
-
Dental Sealant
Dental sealants are thin, plastic films painted on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth -- molars and premolars -- and are highly effective in the prevention of tooth decay (caries and cavities).
Because the sealants act as a physical barrier to decay and plaque build-up, in most cases, they provide 100 percent protection.
- Dental implants
An alternative to dentures, dental implants help to restore the mouth that has little or no non-restorable teeth. Implants help to reduce movement of dentures, bridges, and/or crowns, facilitate proper chewing and provide support and improved stability for removable dentures or fixed bridgework
-
Filling
Teeth that have been affected by tooth decay (caries or cavities) require a filling. There are many different types of fillings - Dental Amalgams, also known as silver fillings and Composite Resins, also known as white fillings.
Other alternatives to restoring damaged or decayed teeth:
- Porcelain veneers - a ceramic material is bonded to the front of teeth to change the tooth's color, size, and/or shape
- Crown - a "cap" that covers a cracked or broken tooth, unfixed by a filling, to approximate its normal size and shape
- Cast gold restorations - this type of restoration is often more costly and may require more than one dental fitting
- Extraction
An extraction is the removal of a tooth or teeth that is non-restorable, non-useful, or harmful to the patient.
-
Bridges
A dental bridge is an appliance used to replace one or more missing teeth. These appliances are cemented into place and cannot be removed by the patient
-
Crowns (Caps)
This is a procedure whereby a damaged tooth is covered to strengthen it. The tooth may have been damaged by decay, or have a previous restoration that has fractured. Root canalled teeth are also crowned if sufficient tooth is missing
-
Periodontal Scaling
Periodontal scaling is a procedure whereby a dentist or hygienist removes the deposits-plaque or tartar, from under the gum line. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia so as to make the patient more comfortable. Many times it can be performed in two to four visits depending upon the amount of deposit present.
-
Denture
Denture replaces missing tooth and its adjacent tissue with a removable dental appliance made of acrylic resin and, in some cases, a combination of metals.
There are four primary types of dentures:
- Complete
This type of denture replaces all of the teeth and their adjacent tissues.
-
Partial
Partial dentures act as dental bridges as they "bridge" the gap between a missing tooth and teeth.
- Conventional
Conventional dentures allow a recovery time (usually 4 to 8 weeks) after all of the teeth is extracted before the dentures are placed in the mouth.
- Immediate
This type of denture does not allow a healing period after all of the teeth are removed. The denture is immediately fit into the mouth after all teeth are removed. Additional adjustments in the fitting of this type of denture procedure may be necessary as healing occurs.
- BLEACHING
Bleaching is a safe, effective way to lighten the color of teeth. Most treatment takes two weeks; however; more time may be needed in severely stained or discolored teeth.
-
ORTHODONTICS (BRACES)
Orthodontics is the art of aligning the teeth and jaws to improve the patient's smile and oral health. It is recommended that an orthodontist see a child early. If braces are needed, placement usually occurs between ten and fourteen years old. The reason for this age is due to the fact that the mouth and head are still growing.
- POSTERIOR PORCELAIN INLAY/ONLAY
This is a highly esthetic, non-metallic restoration that is bonded on the prepared tooth to restore the beauty, strength and function of the tooth.
