    More About Cardiologists

An Interventional cardiologist is a cardiologist who has completed one to two years of additional education and training in catheter-based procedures such as angioplasty and stenting to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease, as well as congenital (present at birth) and structural heart conditions.

The cardiologist’s job is to diagnose and treat cardiac diseases medically (without surgery). Cardiologists also do operations including heart catheterizations, angioplasty (clearing arteries with balloons), and stent placement to keep arteries open.

An interventional cardiologist is a cardiologist who has completed one to two years of additional education and training in catheter-based procedures such as angioplasty and stenting to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease, as well as congenital (present at birth) and structural heart conditions.

The primary distinction between interventional cardiology and general cardiology is that interventional cardiologists are educated to do particular catheter-based heart disease therapies, whereas general cardiologists are not.
