What is FUE Hair Transplant ?
Hair transplantation or Hair transplant is the procedure through which individual hair follicles are transplanted from a part of the body to another which is balding. The site from where the hair is taken, is the donor site and where transplanted is the recipient site. Besides scalp hair, the procedure can also be performed to restore hair of beard, mustache, eyebrows, eyelashes etc.
In this procedure, a small punch is used to remove individual hair follicles. They are then implanted in the scalp using a fine needle point instrument. One of the most popular hair transplant methods, it has a distinct advantage over FUT – it does not cause any scarring.
Advantages of FUE Hair Transplant
- FUE has a major advantage over the traditional strip/FUT hair transplant technique such that no visible scars is seen even after short hair
- Donor area from where the hair is removed looks unaffected and unchanged in this treatment
- FUE Hair Restoration ensures natural look and does not give any feeling that one has gone through any hair transplant treatment
- Natural hairlines assured on the head after restoration giving you an attractive look
- Expedite recovery in a few days instead of months as no scalpel or stitches are used in the treatment
- Treatment is without any major wounds
- No pain during or after the treatment so you can drive home just after the treatment
- Local anesthesia used at the time of extraction for the comfort of the patient
|Surgery Time||Depends on the number of follicles|
|Anesthesia Type||IV Sedation or Local Anesthesia|
|Stitch Removal||Stitches of donor site either get dissolved or can be removed after 10 days|
|Initial Recovery Time||No downtime, normal activities can be resumed the same day|
How is FUE Hair Transplant done?
The first step of ‘FUE’ procedure is to demark the site, to be used for donor site and recipient site.
To form the hair grafts, hair follicles are extracted with great precision from the donor site. The procedure is technologically advanced as it extracts one by one hair for every graft. Every graft will have more than 1 hair strand and maximum 3 to 5 hair strands.
The procedure is based on quick turnaround; thus, all hair follicles extracted from the donor site, are immediately implanted or transplanted in the recipient site.
What is the Recovery after FUE Hair Transplant like?
There is no recovery time/downtime necessary after hair transplantation surgery. Stitches of the donor site either get dissolved or can be removed after 10 days by any doctor near your place. The crust sheds off on its own gradually somewhere between 3-4 weeks.
Most transplanted hair usually shed in about 3 weeks but the roots remain alive and active under the skin and the new hair grows from them in 3-4 months.
What Results Can I Expect from FUE Hair Transplant?
Follicular Unit Extraction is minimally invasive, with a high success rate. One can expect to have thick hair at the balding areas within 8-12 months after the procedure, which is permanent.

Frequently Asked Questions
FUE Hair Transplant is quite a popular procedure among people in Mexico, Central and South America. Calf implant surgery is commonly performed in both men and women. Unfortunately, many orthopedic surgeons and family physicians who see patients with a deformed or hypoplastic leg are not aware that augmentation can be performed.
You will have some pain and bruising which will last for a few days after the procedure. Keep your legs elevated which will help reduce the swelling. You will feel heaviness in your legs for the first few days and walking will be a little difficult, which will improve during the second week and thereafter. You will be able to return to normal activities in about 2 weeks, while exercising and rigorous work will have to wait for at least 6-8 weeks.
Fat transfer to calves is an option for people with a good amount of fat available from the donor sites- viz. your abdomen, thighs, arms, hips or buttocks from where the fat can be harvested. The advantage of fat transfer is that your own body fat is being used, so there are nil chances of rejection or infection. But the results may not be as pronounced as implants and a touch up may be required.
You can discuss the pros and cons of both the procedures- fat transfer to calves vs FUE Hair Transplant with your surgeon to make an informed decision.
Yes, you can run and do other exercises and work out after 8-10 weeks of the procedure or as directed by your surgeon.
