What is Laser Hair Removal ?
If you’re not happy with shaving, tweezing, or waxing to remove unwanted hair, laser hair removal may be an option worth considering.
Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly done cosmetic procedures. It beams highly concentrated light into hair follicles. Pigments in the follicles absorb the light. That destroys the hair.
Laser hair removal is a noninvasive technique that uses highly concentrated light to penetrate hair follicles. The laser light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft which heats up the hair follicle and damages the root, inhibiting future hair growth. Therefore, plucking hair before treatment reduces the efficacy of the laser treatment as the target is absent.
Because laser hair removal only affects actively growing hair follicles, it may take several sessions/ laser hair removal treatments to provide significant hair reduction. Additionally, while laser hair removal effectively slows hair growth, it doesn’t guarantee permanent hair removal. Periodic maintenance treatments may be needed.
Lasers are useful for removing unwanted hair from the face, leg, chin, back, arm, underarm, bikini line, and other areas.
Benefits of laser hair removal include
Precision: Lasers can selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.
Speed: Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hair at the same time. The laser can treat an area approximately the size of a quarter every second. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in less than a minute, and large areas, such as the back or legs, may take up to an hour.
Predictability: Most patients have permanent hair loss after an average of three to seven sessions.
Am I a good Candidate?
Patients with dark hair and light skin are ideal candidates for laser hair removal. This allows the laser to focus its light on the pigment within the hair and does not have pigment within the skin competing for it.
In patients with darker skin however, there are specific lasers that can be used successfully. Those patients that have blonde or white hair, unfortunately, are not good candidates for this as they lack the pigment necessary for treatment.
It is also vital to not have any skin rashes, infections, open wounds or tans depending on the specific technology that is being used.
How is Laser Hair Removal done?
The laser device will be adjusted to match with the patient’s unique needs. The provider may use the laser first on a few test spots to optimize the power, size and pulse frequency for safe and effective results.
A hand-held laser device is then precisely focused on the unwanted hair follicles. The duration of the treatment session will depend on the extent of hair to be removed and the surface area involved.
What is the Recovery after Laser Hair Removal like?
Laser hair removal generally does not require any real downtime. Immediately after having laser hair removal, your treated skin will be red and swollen. Despite this, most people return to their everyday activities.
What Results Can I Expect from Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal results in hair reduction. A good response would involve thinning of the hair and an 80% reduction in growth. Results may or may not be permanent and may require maintenance treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions
Laser Hair Removal is quite a popular procedure among people in Mexico, Central and South America. Calf implant surgery is commonly performed in both men and women. Unfortunately, many orthopedic surgeons and family physicians who see patients with a deformed or hypoplastic leg are not aware that augmentation can be performed.
You will have some pain and bruising which will last for a few days after the procedure. Keep your legs elevated which will help reduce the swelling. You will feel heaviness in your legs for the first few days and walking will be a little difficult, which will improve during the second week and thereafter. You will be able to return to normal activities in about 2 weeks, while exercising and rigorous work will have to wait for at least 6-8 weeks.
Fat transfer to calves is an option for people with a good amount of fat available from the donor sites- viz. your abdomen, thighs, arms, hips or buttocks from where the fat can be harvested. The advantage of fat transfer is that your own body fat is being used, so there are nil chances of rejection or infection. But the results may not be as pronounced as implants and a touch up may be required.
You can discuss the pros and cons of both the procedures- fat transfer to calves vs Laser Hair Removal with your surgeon to make an informed decision.
Yes, you can run and do other exercises and work out after 8-10 weeks of the procedure or as directed by your surgeon.
