What is Laser Tattoo Removal ?

Tattoo removal can be achieved in a number of ways, ranging from laser treatments, chemical peels, dermabrasion and surgical excision. Lasers are the most common method of tattoo removal performed today.

Lasers remove tattoos by breaking up the pigment colors with a high-intensity light beam. Black tattoo pigment absorbs all laser wavelengths, making it the easiest color to treat. Other colors can only be treated by selected lasers based upon the pigment color.

You should first schedule a consultation with a trained professional who can evaluate your tattoo and advise you on the process. The number of treatment sessions you will need will depend on your age, size, and color(s) of your tattoo. The color of your skin, as well as how deep the tattoo pigment goes, will also affect the removal technique.

Am I a good Candidate?

The best candidates for traditional laser removal are those with lighter skin. This is because laser treatment can change the color of darker skin.

How is Laser Tattoo Removal done?

Step 1

You’ll be given a pair of protective eye shields. The cosmetologist will test your skin’s reaction to the laser to determine the most effective energy for treatment.

Step 2

The expert uses the laser to pass pulses of intense light through the top layers of your skin that will be absorbed by the tattoo pigment only.
Depending on the tattoo design, size and color, it may take 1-10 laser sessions to remove the ink. Some colors of ink are harder to remove than others and may not be able to be completely removed. There should be a four to six-week time period between each laser session to allow the wounds to heal and the body to absorb as much of the ink as is possible.

What is the Recovery after Laser Tattoo Removal like?

You will have a gauze bandage applied to the area after the procedure is done. Your expert will explain you how to care for the area after the procedure is done. Typically, this will require no more than washing the area daily with soap and water and applying a new gauze dressing.

Immediately following the treatment, use an ice pack to soothe the treated area. And apply an antibiotic cream or ointment and bandage to protect it. You should also be sure it’s covered with sunblock when you’re outside.

What Results Can I Expect from Laser Tattoo Removal?

The results of tattoo removal are variable depending on the complexity of the design of the tattoo and the number of sessions required. Each session will show some progress toward the final result, though the number of treatments needed to achieve your final result may vary.

Overall, Laser tattoo removal techniques can significantly diminish the appearance of your unwanted tattoo with minimal side effects.
