What is Tubal Ligation Reversal?

Tubal ligation is a surgical procedure in which a woman’s fallopian tubes are either clamped and blocked or severed and sealed, to sterilize a woman permanently. This prevents eggs from being fertilized and thus preventing pregnancy. Tubal ligation is done under general anesthesia and takes approximately one to two hours.

Tubal Ligation Reversal

Few women who have had a tubal ligation, want to conceive again and thus want tubal ligation t0 get reversed. The tubal ligation reversal reconnects the blocked or severed segments of the fallopian tube, allowing the woman to become pregnant again. This procedure is also known as a tubal re-anastomosis, tubal reversal, or tubal sterilization reversal.

How is Tubal Ligation Reversal done?

Step 1

The surgeon makes small incisions in your abdomen (the largest being approximately ½-inch long), to make way for the laparoscopic instruments and camera to perform the procedure.

Step 2

The surgeon removes any damaged sections of your fallopian tubes and any devices from the tubal ligation, such as clips or rings.

Step 3

The surgeon then reattaches the undamaged ends of your fallopian tubes by stitching it. Once the tubes are reconnected, the surgeon injects dye into one end of each tube to make sure there is no leak, which means the tubes are successfully reconnected.

What is the Recovery after Tubal Ligation Reversal like?

You would stay at the hospital under medical supervision for one night if you undergo tubal ligation reversal in India. You may feel some pain or discomfort in the abdomen, which shall be controlled with pain medications. Full recovery may take about a week or so.
