Hymenoplasty, also called hymen restoration or hymen repair surgery, is a plastic surgery procedure that reconstructs the hymen. It is popularly known as revirgination. Women choose it for cultural, social, religious or personal reasons, and it is usually performed as a daycare procedure.
Hymenoplasty or hymen repair surgery takes somewhere around 30 minutes to an hour, performed while the patient is under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. It is usually performed on a Daycare basis, the patient can leave the hospital the same evening.

Hymen Restoration can be performed in women who wish to restore the hymen for cultural, religious, social or ethnic reasons immediately after the intercourse or much later.
The torn edges of the remaining hymen are brought together and sutured with dissolvable sutures. The repaired tissue then heals over the following weeks. The surgery also gives a feeling of the tightness of the area.
If the hymenal remnants are not big enough to be used for the reconstruction, the surgeon will reduce the opening of the vagina using a small portion of the vaginal mucous tissue. During the first intercourse, there will be a small rupture of this newly reconstructed hymen that will be very similar to the rupture of a natural hymen.
You would be able to return to work the next day. You may notice some minor blood loss during the first 48-72 hours which is normal. You need to avoid strenuous activities like horse riding and sports for at least six weeks and then can resume your usual activities.
The reconstructed hymen is designed to resemble a natural one and to tear at the next intercourse in the same way a natural hymen does. How closely that happens varies from one patient to another, and your surgeon will discuss what to expect in your own case.

Hymenoplasty is a short, well-established procedure with a strong safety record in the hands of a qualified surgeon working in a properly equipped facility. As with any surgery it carries some risk, including bleeding and infection, and your surgeon will go through these with you before you decide.
It is difficult to generalize the symptoms when the hymen breaks. There might be pain and bleeding the first time a penis or fingers go into your vagina, but it doesn't happen to everybody. Some people naturally have more hymenal tissue than others - this pain and bleeding can happen when their hymen gets stretched.
You should wait for at least 6 weeks for proper healing before you engage in sexual intercourse.
