IndiCure evaluates every urologist on this page against its 15-Point Surgeon Selection Criteria, covering qualifications, clinical experience, subspecialty training and hospital accreditation. Links to official profiles are provided so you can verify their credentials. We don't charge patients for recommendations, and no doctor or hospital is featured in exchange for a financial arrangement.

Frequently Asked Questions Related to Urology Treatment in India

Urology surgery in India typically costs much less than in the US, UK, or Australia, mainly because of lower hospital running costs. Starting prices (as of October 2026) are:

Procedure Starting price (US$)
Robotic radical prostatectomy (prostate cancer surgery) 8,000
PCNL (keyhole surgery for large kidney stones) 3,500
RIRS or ureteroscopy (scope-based stone removal) 3,000
Laser prostate surgery for an enlarged prostate (BPH) 2,800

A package usually covers the surgeon's fees, operating theatre, a standard hospital stay, routine medicines and tests. It usually doesn't cover flights, accommodation after discharge, or a longer stay if complications arise. Send us your reports, and IndiCure will arrange a written, itemised estimate from the hospital before you travel.

  • Open surgery involves a larger incision to provide direct access to the surgical area. It may still be appropriate for certain complex or advanced conditions.
  • Laparoscopic surgery uses a camera and specialized instruments inserted through several small incisions. Compared with open surgery, it may involve smaller incisions and, in some procedures, a shorter recovery period.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery is performed through small incisions using a robotic surgical platform controlled by the surgeon. The system can provide magnified three-dimensional visualization and articulated instrument movement. Robotic surgery is used for selected urological procedures, including some prostate and kidney surgeries.

The most appropriate surgical approach depends on the diagnosis, anatomy, disease stage, procedure being considered, and the surgeon's clinical assessment.

Treatment depends on your symptoms, prostate size, and overall health. Options range from medicines to minimally invasive procedures and surgery.

  • TURP removes excess prostate tissue through the urethra.
  • HoLEP uses a laser to remove the obstructing tissue and suits even very large prostates.
  • GreenLight laser vaporises the tissue.

Laser procedures usually cause less bleeding and need a catheter for a shorter time than TURP. Your urologist will recommend the right option after assessing your prostate.

Yes, depending on the cancer's risk level.

  • Active surveillance: many men with low-risk prostate cancer can be monitored with regular PSA tests, imaging and repeat biopsies when needed.
  • Radiation therapy: external-beam radiation or brachytherapy is an alternative to surgery for localised cancer.
  • Systemic treatment: advanced cancer may need hormone therapy or other systemic treatments.

The right choice depends on your PSA, cancer grade and stage, age, overall health and preferences, and should be made with a cancer team.

Most men stay in hospital for 1 to 3 days and have a urinary catheter for about 7 to 10 days. Normal activities resume gradually over the next few weeks.

Bladder control usually improves over weeks to months. Erectile function can take longer to return and isn't guaranteed, even with nerve-sparing surgery. Recovery depends on age, function before surgery, the cancer and the extent of surgery.

  • Small stones: may pass on their own with fluids and medicines.
  • ESWL: uses shock waves from outside the body to break up selected stones.
  • RIRS: a flexible scope passed through the urinary tract breaks up kidney stones with a laser, without any cut.
  • PCNL: removes larger or complex stones through a small opening in the back.

The right treatment depends on the stone's size, location and type, which is assessed with a CT scan.

Most patients stay in hospital for 2 to 3 days after PCNL. A temporary drainage tube or stent may be placed and removed later. Light activity usually resumes within a week, and normal activity within 2 to 4 weeks. A follow-up scan checks for any remaining fragments.

  • Early bladder cancer (not in the muscle wall): usually removed through the urethra with TURBT, sometimes followed by medicine placed directly into the bladder.
  • Muscle-invasive bladder cancer: may need removal of the bladder (radical cystectomy), often with chemotherapy. The surgeon then creates a new way for urine to leave the body, either an ileal conduit (urine drains into a bag) or, in suitable patients, a neobladder made from the intestine.

  • RIRS or laser prostate surgery: about 5 to 7 days
  • PCNL: about 7 to 10 days
  • Robotic prostatectomy or kidney cancer surgery: about 2 to 3 weeks, including catheter removal and a follow-up check before flying home

Your surgeon will confirm when it's safe to fly.

Follow-up depends on the cancer. It usually includes:

  • PSA tests after prostate cancer surgery,
  • cystoscopy and urine tests after bladder cancer surgery, and
  • scans after kidney cancer surgery.

Before you fly home, agree a follow-up plan with your surgeon. IndiCure can arrange video follow-ups and share reports with your local doctor.

Yes. IndiCure arranges a video or telephone consultation with the urologist before you travel. Send your scans (CT, MRI or ultrasound), blood tests including PSA if relevant, and any biopsy reports. The urologist will review them and discuss a preliminary plan, which is confirmed after you are examined in India.
